Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
